Global Display Solutions' new touchscreen features optical imaging technology

• 17 Sep 2004

ROSCOE, Ill. - Global Display Solutions, a manufacturer of industrial digital displays, launched its new touchscreen LCD display, a key product in GDS's e-Signage line. The new product is the result of a collaboration with NextWindow Ltd., a designer and developer of optical imaging technologies in the field of touch recognition.

GDS's touchscreen display provides promotion, information and brand-awareness opportunities in a variety of markets including retail, banking, travel and leisure. The touchscreen uses an infrared illuminated frame and custom line-scan camera to determine touch point. The touch can be registered up to 1 mm before physical contact on the screen's surface. The absence of an overlay ensures that there is no onscreen degradation. Also, any object other than a finger can create a "touch;" off-screen areas can be touch-enabled, and the display is not susceptible to scratching.
