RFID to make pizza-buying faster, easier

• 07 Jun 2005

TORONTO - Hoping to increase the number of small-ticket transactions (such as for single slices), Pizza Pizza is partnering with Dexit to provide RFID payment to customers in Greater Toronto.

According to a news release, 160 of approximately 500 Pizza Pizza outlets will offer the service, which enables consumers to pay for low-cost items quickly and conveniently with the tap of an RFID (radio frequency identification) tag linked to a pre-paid account.

In addition to the convenience of using their Dexit tags at participating Pizza Pizza locations, new customers also will be able to pick up Dexit tags and activate them at these merchant outlets. Existing customers also can refill their Dexit accounts at any of the over 160 participating Pizza Pizza locations, or online.

"We are very attuned to our customers and continually strive to respond to their needs," said Pat Finelli, vice president of marketing at Pizza Pizza. "Being customer driven has enabled us to expand our offering and adapt to emerging trends quickly. The partnership with Dexit ties in well with our customer service philosophy in that we are able to provide our customers with the extra convenience they are looking for in their payment options."

By using a registered Dexit tag at a participating Pizza Pizza location, customers will be entered into a promotional contest to win a new car.
